“I want every child to have the financial foundation I wish every adult had started with, before the costly mistakes and mindset sets in.”

My Story

I didn’t always work in financial education, but I’ve always been passionate about helping people build better futures.

With a B.S. in Civil Engineering from Virginia Tech and an MBA in Finance from The University of Akron, I spent years in the corporate world managing budgets, leading cross-functional projects, and developing junior analysts.

But something kept nagging at me.

I watched adults struggle with financial decisions that seemed simple on the surface—budgeting, saving, avoiding debt, planning for the future. These weren’t people who lacked intelligence or motivation. They were capable, hardworking individuals who simply never learned these skills as children.

And I saw the same pattern in my own community. As a former Division I volleyball player and youth coach, I have always enjoyed working with young people, whether it was with tutoring, mentoring, coaching, or playing games. I saw firsthand how kids’ minds are like sponges during their formative years. They absorb concepts effortlessly
when presented in the right way.

That’s when it clicked: Why are we waiting until adulthood to teach financial literacy? Why aren’t we starting when kids are most receptive, as young as age 3?

I became a mom of three, and the urgency hit even harder.

I didn’t want my own children, or anyone’s children, to reach adulthood feeling anxious and overwhelmed about money. I wanted them to feel confident, capable, and equipped to make smart financial decisions from day one.

So I created Claim It Financials.

Not as a side project. Not as a “nice idea.” But as a mission-driven company dedicated to filling the gap that traditional education leaves wide open.

The Problem I Saw

After coaching adults through financial challenges for years, I noticed a disturbing pattern:

Most people’s struggles weren’t caused by lack of income or bad luck. They were caused by missing foundational knowledge… knowledge that should have been taught in childhood.

The statistics backed up what I was seeing:

Graduating Unprepared

High schoolers leave home unable to budget, save, or avoid debt. In turn, making costly mistakes that impact their future.

Gen Z adults score only 38% on basic personal finance questions, meaning they're graduating without the skills they need*

Feeling Anxious About Money

Without early practice, kids grow into adults who feel overwhelmed and uncertain when facing financial decisions.

Young adults with low financial literacy are 8 times more likely to spend 20+ hours per week dealing with money problems*

Money Confusion Starts Early

Many youth can't explain how money works in daily life, leaving them unprepared for real-world financial situations.

Two-thirds of Gen Z adults don't feel confident in their understanding of personal finance*

Missing the Critical Window

Financial habits form during childhood. Every year without money education is a lost opportunity to build lifelong skills.

21% of teens say it's "already too late" for financial education, highlighting the critical window is closing*

.These aren’t just statistics. They’re real kids facing real anxiety about their futures. But it doesn’t have to be this way.

Research shows that money habits form by age 7. That means we have a short, precious window to teach kids financial concepts when their minds are most receptive—before bad habits take root, before anxiety sets in, before mistakes become costly.

Traditional education isn’t filling this gap. Only 21 states require high school students to take a personal finance course, and by then, it’s often too late. Habits are already formed. Attitudes about money are already set.

Parents want to help, but 88% say they feel unprepared to teach financial literacy themselves.

That’s the problem I set out to solve.

The Principles That Guide Everything We Do

Why I Built Claim It Financials This Way

Before you explore our programs, I want you to understand the principles that guide everything we do:

Financial literacy isn’t a privilege; it’s a right. Yet right now, whether a child learns about money depends entirely on zip code, family income, or luck. That’s not just unfair, it perpetuates poverty. Every child, regardless of background, deserves the tools to build a secure financial future.

The research is clear: money habits form by age 7. By the time most schools introduce financial literacy in high school, those habits are already locked in. Starting early isn’t optional. It’s the difference between building a foundation and trying to retrofit one later

Schools play a role, but financial education happens at home, in everyday conversations at the grocery store, decisions about wants vs. needs, and habits kids observe when you check your bank account. Kids don’t learn money from textbooks. They learn it from watching you. You don’t need a finance degree to teach your child about money. You’re already teaching them, whether you realize it or not. The question is: what are they learning?

Kids don’t learn by memorizing definitions. Tthey learn by doing. The difference between a child who’s read about budgeting and one who’s actually tracked their spending for a month? Real confidence. Real skills. Real mistakes they learned from in a safe environment. Theory fills notebooks. Action builds habits.

Money doesn’t have to be scary, and financial literacy doesn’t have to mean boring lectures about compound interest. Kids tune out when they’re lectured. They lean in when they’re playing, competing, solving puzzles, or earning rewards. When learning feels like a game, habits stick. When it feels like homework, they forget it the moment the test is over.

I’ve seen the cost of financial illiteracy up close: anxiety that keeps people awake at night, debt that feels inescapable, opportunities missed because of fear, relationships strained by money stress. And I’ve watched capable, intelligent adults struggle, not because they’re careless, but because no one ever taught them.

But I’ve also seen what happens when kids learn early. They grow into adults who don’t fear money. Who make confident decisions. Who break the cycle of financial anxiety that plagued their parents.

That’s the world I’m working toward, one family at a time.

My Solution: The CLAIM It Framework

The CLAIM Framework is a proven, research-backed approach that transforms financial education from boring theory into engaging, actionable learning.

Here’s how it works:

CONFIDENCE

Positive money mindsets from day one. We help children see themselves as smart decision-makers.

LEARN

Age-appropriate concepts that actually stick. Sequential lessons that build on each other.

ACTION

Real-life practice beats theory every time. Children budget actual money, make real choices, and learn from safe mistakes.

INVEST

Future-thinking that kids understand. Connect today’s choices with tomorrow’s outcomes.

MULTIPLY

Today’s decisions becomes tomorrow’s opportunity. We teach kids how smart habits multiply their money and confidence.

Research shows financial education works best when it’s early, repeated, and applied. That’s exactly what the CLAIM framework delivers.

Unlike traditional approaches that rely on lectures and tests, our programs are built around hands-on activities, real money practice, and ongoing conversations that happen at home, where financial habits are truly formed.

So who can use the CLAIM framework? Everyone!
